About The Position

This Director Strategic Investments position is responsible for $4.7B of investment, retirement and pension portfolios, across 66 public equity, hedge fund, fixed income, private credit, real assets and alternative investments. The successful candidate will manage the portfolio to generate top quartile risk-adjusted returns, preserve real value, and collaborate within Treasury and Presbyterian Healthcare. This role involves strategic decision-making, conducting due diligence, managing relationships with external managers, and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Advanced degrees (MBA, CFA, CAIA) are preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in portfolio management, investment consulting, pension or related fields. Proven track record of successful investment management and positive alpha versus appropriate benchmarks.
  • Skills: Strong financial modeling, communications, analytical skills, project management experience, technology and automation saavy, and expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and Bloomberg.
  • Competencies: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong sense of ownership, and entrepreneurial mindset. Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task, and grow professional relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Investment Research and Due Diligence: Underwrite new and existing investment managers. Evaluate potential portfolio investment opportunities through market research and financial analysis. Internalize portions of the independent investment advisor role.
  • Portfolio Management: Oversee public equity, hedge fund, fixed income, private credit real assets, and alternative investment portfolios across stand alone and unitized accounts. Develop and implement investment strategies, monitor and scorecard performance, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Risk Management: Identify, evaluate, and prioritize risk exposure mitigations. Implement investment policies and procedures that incorporate sound principles appropriate to the investment portfolio. Minimize Unrelated Business Income tax.
  • Team Leadership: With Treasurer, manage Investment Subcommittee & Employee Benefits Administration Committee coordination and reporting. Establish and maintain strong relationships with investment advisors, actuary, custodian, legal counsel and other internal and external stakeholders. Manage KYC, capital calls, and disbursements.
  • Treasury Collaboration: PHS Treasury is one team and share organizational objectives. Support the operations and banking teams. Backup cash and liquidity functions, and special projects as needed. Review of service providers, adoption of appropriate technology, and performance benchmarking.
