About The Position

The Director, Strategic Communications & Media Relations, is a pivotal role within The Rockefeller Foundation's Communications team. This position reports directly to the Managing Director of Strategic Communications and is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communications strategies that align with the Foundation's partnership, impact, and advocacy goals. The Director will play a key leadership role, managing people, projects, and partnerships, particularly with members of the Senior Leadership Team. The role is designed for a highly organized individual with a strong background in communications, capable of navigating complex narratives and delivering impactful media relations strategies. In this role, the Director will lead outreach efforts with Program Communications Directors to craft and promote narratives around significant events and initiatives throughout the year. They will be tasked with designing, implementing, and overseeing multiple projects that align with the Foundation's core institutional and programmatic priorities. This includes researching and writing briefing materials, press releases, key messages, and talking points in collaboration with various Program teams and the broader Communications team. The Director will also develop and implement strategic media relations plans that support the Foundation's digital, branding, institutional, corporate, and internal communications strategies. They will be responsible for delivering high-profile media interviews and events that advance the Foundation's goals, serving as a spokesperson when necessary. Building and maintaining relationships with journalists and producers across various subject areas, particularly in renewable energy, economic mobility, and equitable access to healthcare, will be crucial. Additionally, the Director will synthesize complex information for media pitches, organize press conferences, and manage a network of public relations and communications agencies. They will create and manage an effective project management system to track key media relations activities and ensure timely results. The role requires attendance at conferences and media events to provide on-site support, as well as collaboration with team members to produce daily media clips and internal reports.
