The Director of State Affairs who is part of our Government Relations team and responsible for developing and executing state-level advocacy strategies, engaging with key stakeholders, and ensuring the firm's interests are effectively represented at the state level. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes.

Requirements

Proficiency in legislative tracking tools and government relations software.
Strong knowledge of state legislative and regulatory processes.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex policy issues and provide strategic recommendations.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with state policymakers, senior leadership, and other stakeholders.
Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a high-performing government relations team.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field.
Minimum ten (10) years of experience in state government relations, including significant experience working with state legislatures and state agencies.

Advanced degree (e.g., JD, MPA, MBA) preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive state advocacy strategies to advance the firm's policy objectives.
Build and maintain relationships with key state stakeholders, including state legislators, state agency officials, and industry associations.
Monitor and analyze state legislative and regulatory developments that impact the firm's interests and provide timely updates to senior leadership.
Conduct in-depth policy analysis on relevant state issues and provide strategic recommendations to the firm's leadership.
Collaborate with industry coalitions, trade associations, and other stakeholders to advance common policy goals.
Prepare and deliver clear and concise communications, including policy briefs, position papers, and testimony, to effectively convey the firm's positions to state policymakers.
Ensure compliance with all state lobbying disclosure requirements and maintain accurate records of lobbying activities.
Organize and participate in meetings, briefings, and events with state policymakers and other stakeholders to advance the firm's policy objectives.
Prepare regular reports on state advocacy activities and outcomes for senior leadership.
