The Director of State Affairs who is part of our Government Relations team and responsible for developing and executing state-level advocacy strategies, engaging with key stakeholders, and ensuring the firm's interests are effectively represented at the state level. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in legislative tracking tools and government relations software.
  • Strong knowledge of state legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex policy issues and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with state policymakers, senior leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a high-performing government relations team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in state government relations, including significant experience working with state legislatures and state agencies.

  • Advanced degree (e.g., JD, MPA, MBA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive state advocacy strategies to advance the firm's policy objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key state stakeholders, including state legislators, state agency officials, and industry associations.
  • Monitor and analyze state legislative and regulatory developments that impact the firm's interests and provide timely updates to senior leadership.
  • Conduct in-depth policy analysis on relevant state issues and provide strategic recommendations to the firm's leadership.
  • Collaborate with industry coalitions, trade associations, and other stakeholders to advance common policy goals.
  • Prepare and deliver clear and concise communications, including policy briefs, position papers, and testimony, to effectively convey the firm's positions to state policymakers.
  • Ensure compliance with all state lobbying disclosure requirements and maintain accurate records of lobbying activities.
  • Organize and participate in meetings, briefings, and events with state policymakers and other stakeholders to advance the firm's policy objectives.
  • Prepare regular reports on state advocacy activities and outcomes for senior leadership.
  • Maintain confidential information.
