About The Position

The City of Greer is seeking a Director, Sports and Events Center in the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department. This position is responsible for managing, directing, and evaluating department staff, overseeing the daily operations of the Sports and Events Center division, and ensuring the successful marketing, selling, and servicing of sports tourism events, local league sports, and logistical support for tournaments and special events. The Director will negotiate agreements with Event Rights Holders, manage the division budget, and assist in creating new revenue-producing programs. The role requires interaction with various groups and individuals, conveying the City's vision and objectives to staff, and engaging the public through advisory committees and public engagements. The Director will also travel on behalf of the City to conventions, seminars, and events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management, Business or related field.
  • At least four (4) years' progressive responsibilities/experience with a track record of successful leadership and strategic planning.
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management experience.
  • Must have or be able to achieve state or national level credentials/certifications within one year from date of hire.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driver history.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, directs, and evaluates department staff.
  • Assumes management responsibility for all services and activities of the Sports and Events Center's division.
  • Oversees the daily operations of the Sports and Events Center division.
  • Responsible for the marketing, selling, and servicing of sports tourism events, adult and youth local league sports, and logistical support for tournaments and special events.
  • Negotiates agreements with Event Rights Holders, including developing bid specifications.
  • Plans and manages the division budget; reviews and approves invoices for payment.
  • Assists in creating and implementing new revenue-producing programs.
  • Receives and reviews various records and reports including vehicle maintenance reports, park maintenance reports, incident and accident reports, financial reports, budget reports, timecards, invoices, City Strategic Plan updates, PRT Master Plan updates, and performance appraisals.
  • Prepares a variety of documents including work requests, requisitions, monthly reports, performance appraisals, budgets, and comparative analyses.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as supervisors, department personnel, commission/board members, civic/community organizations, school groups, governmental agencies, contractors, consultants, volunteers, program participants, business leaders, news media, and the general public.
  • Assists with running the day-to-day operations of the Division.
  • Conveys the City's vision and objectives to staff to create successful programs.
  • Engages the public through the City's advisory committee structure and by attending public engagements.
  • Travels on behalf of the City to conventions, seminars, and events; engages in panel discussions, relationship building, and obtaining certifications.
