About The Position

The Director of Security at D.C. United is responsible for leading the security operations team at Audi Field, ensuring the safety and security of the venue during events and in crisis situations. This role involves overseeing in-house security staff, managing event security operations, and maintaining compliance with city ordinances. The Director will also handle budgetary components and provide expertise to the stadium operations department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, criminal justice, or related field preferred.
  • Previous security, military, or law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Must be age 21 or older and qualify for a DC OLG Occupational License.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and logs in neat handwriting.
  • Ability to read and understand operating procedures and instructions.
  • Must complete a background investigation and drug/alcohol test as a condition of employment.
  • Maintain current active status of required licenses while on duty.
  • Intermediate computer skills for using technology at venues.
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Neat and professional appearance.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Ability to handle common and crisis situations calmly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Direct a team of 3-5 full-time administrative colleagues and 20+ in-house physical security staff.
  • Maintain compliance with city ordinances regarding security officers and special police officers.
  • Oversee security operations for full-stadium and special events, managing third-party safety and security providers.
  • Track and plan budgetary requirements for the Security Division and provide financial updates to the General Manager.
  • Foster relationships with law enforcement and military in the National Capitol Region.
  • Support the Operations Department with stakeholder management for complex events.
  • Manage the relationship with FanDuel Sportsbook regarding safety and security standards.
  • Develop and maintain the annual budget for the security department, including staffing levels and physical security needs.
  • Assess and approve access control for Audi Field and the Inova Performance Complex.
  • Communicate effectively with security and surveillance teams between Audi Field and IPC.
  • Adapt to changing environments and report safety concerns and security breaches.
  • Handle emergency situations and contact appropriate emergency services.
  • Participate in security/safety training programs and patrol premises regularly.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance of vehicles and people, and secure exits after operations.
  • Provide excellent guest service and resolve complaints.
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, and act as a dispatcher in emergencies.
  • Act as a first responder in emergencies and assist in securing the scene.
