About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Director, Security to lead and continuously advance a comprehensive safety and security program across a large, complex healthcare environment. This leader will help guide the strategic vision for protecting patients, staff and visitors while fostering a culture of safety, respect and service excellence. The Director position is responsible for all operational success of the Unit. Deep operation expertise - particularly in leading armed security personnel - alongside strong command of regulations, laws and risk mitigation strategies. This role requires a balance of strategic foresight, calm operational leadership, legal acuity, and collaborative influence within a mission-driven organization. All Armed Security Officers at Sentara must possess the ability to exercise discretion regarding the use of their weapon. Therefore, only utilizing their weapon in times of extreme attack when all non-violent options have been exhausted.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree Required
  • Sentara has implemented a Fit for Duty assessment to ensure that our officers meet a minimum standard of fitness
  • Officer must pass the Psychological Evaluation and Assessment conducted by the Sentara selected Service Provider
  • Officer Must also obtain Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire
  • De-escalation training and physical intervention training certification must be successfully completed within 180 days of hire
  • Current Handle with Care-Instructor is acceptable in lieu of basic Handle with Care training
