About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Director, Sands Institute for Chinese Language and Culture at UNLV. The newly established Sands Institute for Chinese Language and Culture at UNLV invites applicants with exceptional leadership, cross-cultural expertise, and a commitment to advancing intercultural understanding and educational opportunities to apply for the position of Director. This inaugural role will guide the Institute's mission to foster understanding between the United States and China while advancing UNLV’s reputation as a leading site for international education and cultural dialogue.

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in program development, international education, or cultural exchange.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership roles, including at least two years of management experience.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
  • Expertise in Chinese language, culture, and history.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, develop strategic plans, and oversee program implementation.
  • Strong verbal, written, and cross-cultural communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree.
  • Prior experience leading an international language or cultural center.
  • Record of success in grant writing and management.
  • Knowledge of the Las Vegas community and its cultural landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership for the Institute’s academic, cultural, and community-focused initiatives.
  • Supervise the Institute’s team and oversee all aspects of its operations.
  • Lead strategic planning and guide the direction of the institute.
  • Promote the Institute’s mission through public speaking engagements and strategic communication efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Sands Corporation and local, national, and international stakeholders.
  • Cultivate and manage partnerships with academic institutions, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Secure funding to sustain and expand the Institute’s activities through grant writing and donor relations.
  • Oversee the development of scholarship programs, graduate assistantships, fellowships, and faculty grants.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to integrate language and cultural studies into broader curricula.
  • Manage the Institute’s budget, staff, hiring processes, and resources.
