The Director of Risk Management and Continuing Professional Education for New York City Health + Hospitals Health System reports directly to the AVP of Risk Management and Continuing Professional Education. Primary responsibility is to work collaboratively with the AVP Risk to coordinate the activities of the Health System Risk Managers, including but not limited to the tasks identified below. General tasks and responsibilities will include: Coordinate and manage all the Post-Acute Care service line, Community care and Behavioral Health Risk Management Activities. Coordinates dispositions of incidents for the BH population and adverse events. Participates in Root Cause Analysis and Incident reviews as indicated. Reports all incidents and events requiring regulatory required investigations to Sr. H+H Leadership and CLU. Assist the Risk Managers as needed to identify best practices to improve medical care and patient safety. Actively participates on the Systemwide Risk Management Council & provides RM guidance to sites in the absence of a site Risk Manager Leader. Supports all Central Office and Site Leadership initiatives and teams as needed. Works with the Associate Director to support the VOICE electronic Occurrence Reporting System. Electronic Claims Management System Administrator, managing access and usage of the system. In the absence of the AVP, Claims Management Services and the H+H Risk Managers System Liaison. Provides Systemwide Malpractice Claims History for all the Managed Care Companies credentialing and re-credentialing applications. Assists with identifying courses Med IQ courses annually for the PAC and BH Providers, in collaboration with the Claims and Litigation Unit (CLU). Identifies and submits requests for prelitigation reviews of adverse events. Participates in Claims Management Meetings for the PAC, community care and Gotham cases & assists CLU staff & Outside Council as needed to facilitate the timely delivery of records by the facilities. Interprets Policies and Procedures and liaison with OLA for Medical Legal Issues. Provides leadership for proactive risk and safety assessments, educates other practitioners of the system-based cause for medical errors, and communicates evidence-based strategies regarding effective patient safety to leaders of the organization. Maintains current knowledge of changes in the Medico-legal arena. Updates Senior Leadership on the standards/regulations, monitoring and complying with the updates/changes in the standards, and timely communication of the changes with the relevant departments/Associates. Collaborates, educates and engages leaders, associates, and physicians in process improvements associated with patient safety and risk. Oversees the Highmarks system, to manage the Continuing Professional Education program workflow. As the Nurse leader for the NYC Health + Hospitals Continuing Education program, maintains the sponsorship for the Continuing Medical Education, Continuing Nursing Education, Creative Arts Therapy Education, Social Work and Psychology Education programs throughout the health system. Provides guidance to NYCH+H staff on program requirement in planning Continuing Education activities and adheres to the governing entity's regulations to maintain sponsorships in good standing. Guides staff who manage the process from reviewing applications through issuing and retrieval of CE credits for the program attendees. The Continuing Education initiatives are fully aligned with the organization's vision and strategies, to promote patient safety and ensure continuous review and improvement of the organization's processes and plans. Participates in Clinical Council meetings as indicated. Participates on Incident Review Committee and the PAC and community care review committees as indicated. Perform other duties as needed.
