THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE: The Director, Retail Outbound Transportation partners closely with the Vice President of Transportation to provide strategic vision, direction, and leadership across all facets of retail outbound transportation, ensuring alignment with Ulta Beauty’s enterprise goals. This role is responsible for leading the retail outbound transportation strategy and operations across the enterprise, supporting the retail road-map for Ulta Beauty. The Director will lead the retail outbound transportation operations team, partner with internal stakeholders and leadership to evolve the future strategy for retail outbound transportation processes across the network and lead the implementation of any changes. This role includes leading and developing managers of people and deploying new capabilities within the Transportation team. The Director will manage cross-functional relationships with third-party vendors, Store Operations, Store Field Leadership, Distribution Centers, Ulta IT, Finance, and Loss Prevention. The Director will work closely with internal stakeholders and enterprise leaders (Directors, VPs, and SVPs) to optimize outbound freight flow across our network and will be responsible for leading the implementation of any changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 10 +years’ supply chain experience with a focus on transportation, strategy, analytics, procurement, operations and team leadership. Retail supply chain experience a plus.
  • Strong supply chain background with leadership roles across supply chain disciplines (preferably field and corporate).
  • Must be a self-starter and can successfully develop and execute against departmental goals with minimal guidance.
  • Creative problem solver with the ability to manage and drive accountability across the supply chain.
  • Demonstrated success in developing talent, managing performance and building high performing teams.
  • Strategic thought leader able to build robust plans and execute with speed, while communicating clear priorities.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across functions and influence decisions related Supply Chain Operations
  • Ability to speak, work with, and present to large and diverse audiences
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to successfully lead in a fast-paced, growing environment.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented.
  • Negotiation expertise with experience in transportation with a proven track record of optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex business situations and problems, coordinate many complex activities/projects simultaneously and direct successful solutions.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% year
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as dictated by business needs.Ability to travel as required

Nice To Haves

  • Retail supply chain experience a plus.
  • Previous experience & expertise in SAP, TMS, Yard Management, & data & analytics platforms. Track & Trace systems, PowerBI and Tableau is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build, define, and manage the development of a retail outbound transportation strategic road-map to optimize service to our stores and guests while ensuring the strategy ties to overall Supply Chain and Retail vision.
  • Manage the development of a comprehensive multi-modal retail outbound transportation strategy, establishing and tracking KPIs to assess and improve performance.
  • P&L responsibility of $50M+ including focus on cost savings optimization, carrier procurement, and analytics to support strategic strategy.
  • Develop business cases for supply chain investments, including analysis of capital investments and associated cost savings and other benefits to guide executive decision making.
  • Lead a team to develop and implement detailed best practices and processes to support Best in Class vision of future supply chain.
  • Lead strategic initiatives with enterprise leaders (Sr. Managers, Directors, VPs, SVPs) to define and plan various business applications such as enterprise strategic initiatives, best practice process improvement, and business continuation.
  • Create capabilities for performance management and sustained process optimization.
  • Develop leadership-level presentations detailing strategy, progress, and financial status.
  • Collaborate with enterprise leadership (Sr. Managers, Directors, VPs, SVPs) cross-functionally to influence and drive targeted supply chain improvements. Lead initiatives associated with new stores, new DC logistics network development, and other strategic efforts.
  • Develop and train process implementation and documentation support for all distribution/supply chain-related projects, including supporting and/or creating project plans and time-lines.
  • Plan and manage project execution, ensuring that development projects are delivered on time, on budget, and consistent with specifications.
  • Serve as liaison and SME between DCs and various HQ departments for day-to-day retail outbound transportation resolution.
  • Coach, counsel, develop, and motivate team to successfully achieve department objectives.
  • Continually evolve the team through introduction and deployment of industry-leading practices.
  • Manage performance and business continuity through analytics, enhanced visibility, and process control.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Sr. Manager, DMs and Directors, RVPs and VPs, SVPs) to better understand our store/guest needs and ensure superior logistics support.
  • Participate in the definition of project scope, business requirements documents (SOP), goals, and deliverables including resource requirements/allocations.
  • Develop dynamic performance management practices including scorecards.
