About The Position

According to the ACGME Institutional Requirements, “the purpose of graduate medical education (GME) is to provide an organized educational program with guidance and supervision of the resident, facilitating the resident’s ethical, professional and personal development while ensuring safe and appropriate care for patients.” In partnership with Morehouse School of Medicine, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital's, Residency Program Director will help establish, build and lead our program from the groundup to bring a GME program to the Bakersfield community. The position will include leadership, administrative, teaching and patient care responsibilities. In partnership with Morehouse School of Medicine, our focus on GME expansion is to: Diversify the physician workforce and address the national physician shortage; Concentrate training opportunities on primary care; Focus on areas of inequity with regard to the provision of healthcare, including but not limited to racial inequities in healthcare and caring for medically underserved and vulnerable populations; and Join the national initiative to train 300 additional underrepresented minority providers annually.

Requirements

  • Specialty expertise and a minimum of three (3) years of documented educational and/or administrative experience.
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited school.
  • A current and valid license as physician and surgeon (LIC OSTPHY – Osteopathic Phys-Surgeon) in the state of California.
  • A current certification in the program’s specialty by American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), or by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AOBOG).
  • Operational management, including budget preparation, experience in administrative support of a department and demonstrated ability to manage detailed projects.
  • History of scholarly activities and research
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills
  • A creative thinker with a demonstrated passion for teaching and learning.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in teaching in a residency program preferred.
  • Ideal candidates will have experience as a Core Faculty, Associate Director or Director of a Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Training Program.
