About The Position

This position resides with Sutter Health’s Research department and provides financial oversight for Sutter Health’s Research portfolio, ensures the financial feasibility, compliance and accuracy for all clinical research at Sutter, and provides leadership and expertise with research financial management. The individual will drive continuous improvement activities, including refining or creating common standards, policies, procedures and work instructions. This individual will have direct or matrixed oversight and responsibility for: All pre- and post-award accounting activities related to research in both industry and non-industry studies, including regular meetings with Research Administrators to review research portfolio, upcoming deliverables, identify problem accounts and/or deficits, and work with administration to eliminate deficits. Research accounting activities, including being the primary contact for federally required audits. The annual budgeting process across Research. Leading all aspects of F&A rate development, including proposal preparation and negotiation with Sutter’s Federal cognizant agency and developing the proposal and negotiation for the Fringe Benefit Rate. Coordination with Sutter Corporate Finance and Controller for all internal and external financial audits. Optimizing policies and systems for research-wide financial processes, including employee compensation compliance (effort reporting), procurement, and billing/payment. Position includes oversight of GME in addition to Research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's: Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • 12 years recent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of health care industry and healthcare reimbursement.
  • Knowledge of physician group, hospital, ambulatory, and health care administration within an integrated system based delivery organization.
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with executives and other key customers.
  • Must have communication skills, including written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal.
  • Must have problem identification and analysis skills.
  • Must be able to train and delegate responsibility and authority to staff.
  • Must be able to communicate complex financial and business information to many stakeholders who may not have technical backgrounds.
  • Must have computer skills, including spreadsheet, word processing, database and presentation software.
  • Must have experience developing effective working relationships with demanding executives and maintaining a positive forward focus in the face of confrontational and/or politically charged situations.
  • Must have attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must be able to use personal influence to persuade others to accomplish results without direct lines of authority.
  • Must have ability to work in a matrix environment.
