The Director of Reliability and Systems Engineering at Trane Technologies is a key leadership role responsible for driving the growth strategy of the Residential HVAC business unit. This position requires extensive technical knowledge, statistical analysis, and reliability theory to enhance product reliability and ensure performance standards are met. The Director will collaborate with engineers, operations personnel, and product managers across North America and globally, making strategic decisions in a team-oriented environment.

  • Lead the RHVAC Reliability Engineering Team in executing the Design for Reliability (DFR) process.
  • Ensure a deep understanding of component functions and failure modes to enhance product reliability.
  • Lead the Systems Engineering and Product Performance Compliance team to establish clear requirements and ensure performance standards are met.
  • Implement Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies to facilitate the exchange of information, feedback, and requirements through digital models.
  • Maintain and coordinate the digital modeling process throughout the entire lifecycle of the system.
  • Partner with cross-functional department leaders to align work, understand products, business strategy, and prioritization to improve cross-platform communication.
  • Provide leadership visibility and manage project dependencies to communicate issues, risks, and costs effectively.
  • Coordinate and implement MBSE methodologies within the Residential SBU and across the company.
  • Develop improved product rating methods and strategies for evaluation throughout the product design process.
  • Advocate for the importance of designing and building reliable products that meet our brand's promise while balancing cost and schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Engineer's Office to ensure product launch readiness through Independent Design Reviews (IDRs).
  • Develop reliability allocations for components and systems to establish quality and reliability goals for New Product Development (NPD) teams.
  • Leverage DFR practices within the engineering community to achieve product reliability targets.
  • Provide training on tools and processes, and administer the FRACAS process.
  • Conduct special projects such as analytical/probabilistic life prediction, root cause analysis, safety assessment, and total life cycle cost analysis.
  • Develop and deploy tools in systems, reliability, and evaluation engineering to achieve goals.
  • Define life and stress profiles, design criteria, and standard validation plans.
  • Develop processes and tools such as Change Point Analysis, RADAR, DFR Scorecard, and FRACAS.
  • Implement engineering process improvements like DFx and build and evaluation processes.
  • Collaborate with the SBU Quality Director to integrate the Quality Management System (QMS) into the engineering organization.
  • Strengthen the NPD process and governance in collaboration with the Chief Engineer and Program Management.
  • Develop and deploy the QRMS system to incorporate customer feedback into sustaining engineering and quality improvement value streams for RHVAC and Supply.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of 10 years engineering experience, including 5 years of leadership and/or design engineering experience.
  • People management experience is required.
  • Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills, team management, and effective communication.
  • Proven experience in reliability and systems engineering, preferably within the HVAC industry.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and drive cross-functional teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of reliability theory, statistical analysis, and physics-of-failure methodologies.
  • Preferred experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital modeling.
