Position Summary The Director, R&D Quality Intelligence & Transformation leads the strategy, build, and adoption of data-driven quality capabilities and innovation across R&D Quality (RDQ). This role accelerates RDQ’s move from reactive, transactional activities to proactive, risk‑proportionate oversight by fusing high‑value analytics, automation, and digital solutions into core quality processes and practices. The Director partners across RDQ, Global Quality (GQ) and where needed with business functional teams to enable faster, smarter decisions that protect patients, strengthen compliance, and improve business delivery. This role will also facilitate budget planning and prioritization of the above strategies and is responsible for roadmap and delivery in close collaboration with Global Quality and R&D.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, IT, or a health‑related field
  • Broad business leadership skills with at least 10 years of pharmaceutical or healthcare industry experience, including experience in regulated environments (e.g., Quality Systems, Clinical Development, Pharmacovigilance, or adjacent functions)
  • Demonstrated success converting complex challenges into clear plans of action and driving large cross‑functional initiatives to deliver intended business outcomes
  • Exceptional cross‑functional, matrix, and project leadership skills
  • Commitment and passion for achieving desired outcomes (value, quality, urgency, cost)
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting and planning
  • Proven project management experience and expertise, including change management, organizational development, risk management, and crisis management

Responsibilities

  • Digital Innovation & Automation Lead the RDQ Innovation, Digital and Data Analytics Strategies and work together with the RDQ leadership in defining our 3–5-year Strategic RoadMap.
  • Provides vision and proposes end-to-end digital solutions leveraging AI/ML, robotic process automation and advanced analytics.

  • Lead design and scale‑up of digital solutions (e.g., automation “bots,” remote auditing capabilities, GenAI‑assisted reviews) to simplify processes, reduce cycle time, and improve inspection readiness.
  • Partner with IT/Analytics teams to ensure data architecture, quality, and lineage support regulated use cases across GxP domains.
  • Facilitate budget planning and forecast for RDQ Innovative and Digital Capabilities Partner with GQ Digital Governance teams and IT/Analytics teams to ensure data architecture, quality, and lineage support regulated use cases across GxP domains.
  • Quality Intelligence & Decision Excellence Define and own the Quality Intelligence framework for RDQ, encompassing signal detection, trend analytics, and insight-to-action workflows that enable timely governance and escalation.
  • Establish and implement comprehensive KPI and OKR frameworks, leveraging near real-time data to deliver actionable insights that empower RDQ leaders and councils in decision-making
  • Governance, Operating Model & Change Leadership Serve as a representative where applicable in GQ governance bodies ensuring digital and innovation related agendas, clear actions, and measurable follow‑through.
  • Champion RDQ’s operating model and “Future‑Ready Quality” vision, engaging extended leadership and business functions to cascade context, capability, and ways of working.
  • Drive adoption through change management, training, and communications in line with cross functional XLT engagement practices so new capabilities take root and scale.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & External Benchmarking Build trusted partnerships with RDQ/GQ and business functions to co-create insights and decision capabilities to drive business solutions.
  • Foster a data-driven culture across the organization promoting digital and data literacy and enable RDQ to have the skills they need to operate and thrive in a truly digital environment
  • Manage innovation as a capability by experimenting with new digital technologies, scaling capabilities, and collaborating across the enterprise
  • Track external trends and benchmark RDQ/GQ against industry best practices in analytics, GenAI, remote oversight, and risk‑based quality.
