We are searching for the best talent for a Director, R&D, Healing and Core Technology – MedTech to support our handheld medical devices business. This role will be located in Raritan, NJ & work a hybrid work schedule (≥3 days in the office). Relocation assistance is available for qualified applicants. The Director R&D, Healing and Core Tech will lead a cross-functional research and development organization focused on design, materials selection, and process development for advancing a robust portfolio of healing innovations as well as growing our Cardiovascular (non-suture) portfolio offerings. The role requires deep technical expertise, proven experience developing and scaling manufacturing processes in the medical device industry, and the ability to translate scientific concepts into regulatory-ready products.

Requirements

  • A degree in Biomedical Engineering, Engineering or Materials Science is required
  • Must have 10+ years of NPD Project Management or related experience is required
  • 5 + experience in people leadership is required
  • Technical expertise and proven experience developing and scaling manufacturing processes is required
  • Experience in Biomedical Engineering, Engineering or Materials Science fundamentals is required
  • Strong project management skills are required
  • Strong change management leadership skills are required
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and ability to prioritize across programs
  • Proven people manager and mentor
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Comfortable influencing within matrixed organizations
  • Collaboration and cross-functional leadership skills in complex environments is essential for candidate’s success
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Travel: Up to 20% both domestic and international is required

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree is strongly preferred
  • Experience in medical device industry (Cardiovascular, Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine, Wound Care, GYN, GI, etc.) is strongly preferred
  • Experience in Healing and/or CV products (Closure devices, valves, sealants, adhesives, scaffolds, etc.) is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Technical NPD Project Management Lead Mechanical/Process/Material team driving holistic product development efforts
  • Drive integration across all NPD functions to deliver technically feasible products through to launch
  • Develop team technical mastery, critical thinking and problem solving
  • Oversee process validation, design verification and validation activities
  • Define and execute R&D strategy and roadmap aligned with business goals
  • Develop diverse R&D team focused on best practices and continuous improvement
  • Build skills for complex collaboration across R&D and Supply Chain
  • Foster a culture of scientific rigor and cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, resources and third-party partners
  • Champion new ways of working and lead teams through ambiguity
