About The Position

Responsible for direction and implementation of the safety and security actions/activities relative to environment of care standards including: life safety, hazardous materials, emergency preparedness, business continuity medical equipment and utilities and telecommunications services (switchboard operators) for all Frederick Health facilities and employees. Supports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Security, Law Enforcement or related field or candidates must have a minimum of 8 years experience in hospital security management in lieu of degree.
  • Three to five years experience, in a management capacity.
  • Three to five years management experience in safety/security or related field.
  • Experience with hazardous materials, safety hazard surveys, incident reporting, identifying unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Ability to evaluate safety deficiencies, failures and issues.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interpret blueprints/specifications and utilize estimating materials.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as agent for the Board of Directors and Administration in enforcement of regulations, policies and applicable laws to safeguard the hospital patients, visitors, staff, volunteers, physicians and property.
  • Develops and maintains a fiscal budget for the Public Safety department. Monitors operating expenses; including salaries and capital expense items for each department.
  • Provides direction for staffing, performance appraisals, staff development and disciplinary procedures. Develops staffing model to ensure quality service to the hospital community.
  • Participates in hospital fire and disaster plan. Prepares a quarterly safety management report for Administration.
  • Serve as co-chairperson of the Safety Management Committee (SMC); Chairperson of Emergency Preparedness Committee; Chairperson of Emergency Department and Family Center Security Taskforce; Chairperson to Local Emergency Planning Commission; Chairperson to Tri-State Coalition.
  • Facilitates reports to the committee on all seven components of the environment of care and safety concerns. Reports concerns to Administration and committee members when warranted.
  • Intercedes and directs during unsafe conditions.
  • Participates in risk assessment, safety education, program development and occurrence reporting.
  • Convenes all committee meetings providing a detailed report of actions/activities.
  • Assists the Risk Manager with special projects and provides documentation to Administration and Board of Directors.
  • Conducts hands-on specialty training in areas including fire safety, hazardous materials and waste management.
  • Conducts health, safety, environmental regulatory audits; both general and department-specific to ensure compliance.
