Position details are as follows: Winship Cancer Institute is seeking an innovative and experienced leader to serve as Director, Programs within our Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) team. This position offers the opportunity to shape and implement strategic initiatives that address cancer disparities across Georgia, and the opportunity to lead key programs, and manage budgets. The ideal candidate must have strong decision-making skills with experience in strategic planning, working with community partners, interpreting population-based data, and supporting research and care efforts. PhD is preferred.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to program work and seven years of related experience which includes two years at a management level, OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
Effective writing, analytical, presentation, and collaboration skills.
Knowledge of and experience with research methods and study implementation.
May have research experience in clinical, translational, and/or population sciences.
Self-starter and ability to function independently and make decisions under general supervision.
Able to work and collaborate easily with community-based populations and partners.

Responsibilities

Directs the strategic planning, development and implementation of a large and complex program or of several smaller programs.
Plans, administers and monitors program budgets.
Develops short and long term goals and objectives.
Oversees related special projects.
May represent the program in various national and international settings.
May manage the solicitation of funding from foundation, corporate, individual and governmental donors.
Collaborates with and seeks the support of representatives from other organizations.
Establishes and administers policies and procedures.
Supervises staff.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
Ensures catchment area assessment data and input from community stakeholders are integrated into strategic planning process
Works closely with Marketing and Communications to disseminated data and events relevant to Winship Cancer Institute and its catchment area (state of Georgia)
Develops materials needed to maintain COE website information and other community outreach activities
Manages finances and budgets for COE and the Winship Center for Cancer Health Equity Research (WCCHER) in collaboration with Winship Finances
Helps generate programmatic and research project budgets.
Reviews budgetary expenses and works closely with Finance to maintain budgetary compliance.
Facilitates processing of programmatic expenses.
Ensures budgetary and financial compliance with University policies and procedures
Facilitates processing of programmatic expenses and timeliness of payments
Reviews and assigns requests for services received by COE from researchers, clinicians, students, and community members.
Collaborates with Emory University Government Relations staff and with representatives from local, state, and national government entities and other organizations relevant to policy that impacts the cancer burden in Georgia
Monitors and regularly evaluates progress in reaching goals identified through strategic planning process.
Partners with county and statewide community organizations to promote evidence-based interventions for cancer prevention, screening, and control
Drafts annual announcement for Community Mini-Grant Pilot program and oversees distribution, application reviews, awards, and progress reports
Serves as key member of Planning Committee for annual statewide Georgia Cancer Summit
Represents COE at institutional, local, state, or national meetings
Collaborates with Emory Healthcare for community-based clinical activities, e.g., screening programs
Organizes meetings, communications, and oversees activities of the Winship Community Advisory Board (CAB)
Organizes meeting, communications, and oversees activities of the Winship Center for Cancer Health Equity Research
Collects, analyzes, and summarizes data needed for presentations, progress reports, External Advisory Board meetings, and the P30 Cancer Center Support Grant for COE and WCCHER
Drafts progress reports and financial reports for COE and WCCHER
Assists with extramural grant applications led by COE or for which COE plays a key role
Conducts literature searches and summarizes findings for COE activities or proposals
Provides expertise in data related to statewide cancer disparities and works with investigators to develop community input, bi-directional communication, or formal community boards to advise other research studies.
