About The Position

The Director of Procurement at Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma America (MTPA) is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing and optimizing the procurement function across all commercial and corporate departments. This position involves leading a small team to develop and implement procurement strategies, manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with procurement policies. The role also focuses on achieving cost savings, improving operational efficiency, and driving innovation while supporting sustainable practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field, required.
  • Master's degree, e.g. MBA (preferred).
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) are a plus.
  • Experience in life sciences, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industries is preferred.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful procurement strategies.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in managing and developing a team.
  • Knowledge of sustainable procurement practices and responsible sourcing.
  • Familiarity with procurement technology solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with the organization's overall goals and objectives.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management.
  • Stay abreast of market trends and emerging technologies to leverage best practices and innovative solutions in procurement.
  • Align procurement strategies with broader company objectives including sustainability, risk management, and innovation.
  • Lead, mentor, manage, and develop a high-performing procurement team, providing coaching, mentorship, performance metrics, and career development.
  • Foster a high-performing team culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and ethical conduct within the procurement function.
  • Set clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback to team members, focused on collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing to ensure optimal value for the organization.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address any issues promptly.
  • Streamline procurement processes to improve efficiency and reduce cycle times.
  • Implement technology solutions to automate and enhance procurement operations.
  • Evaluate and implement procurement systems, tools, and technologies to improve efficiency and transparency.
  • Identify and mitigate risks in procurement, ensuring business continuity and resilience.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Develop and enforce ethical procurement practices and drive sustainability initiatives.
  • Develop and manage the procurement budget effectively.
  • Track and analyze procurement spending to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare regular reports on procurement performance and key metrics.
