About The Position

The Director of Preschool - Instructional Services is responsible for overseeing the management and operation of preschool programs, including those for children with disabilities. This role involves leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs to create a safe and inclusive environment for all preschool children. The Director ensures compliance with regulations, fosters relationships with families and the community, and collaborates with stakeholders to meet the educational needs of children. Additionally, the Director provides leadership and support to staff to enhance the quality of preschool programs.

Requirements

  • Expertise in early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of policies governing services for children with disabilities and IDEA.
  • Understanding of organizational principles and personnel management.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, finance, and governmental accounting.
  • Familiarity with grant application processes for exceptional children's programs.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify problems and construct backup plans.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills for various audiences.
  • Ability to design and evaluate plans for addressing challenging behaviors.
  • Proficiency in mentoring and developing staff to enhance performance.
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office and educational software.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Strategic Plan and district initiatives for holistic child development.
  • Provides leadership for preschool initiatives and oversees programming, including screening processes and family engagement.
  • Selects, trains, monitors, and evaluates direct report personnel, facilitating professional development as needed.
  • Plans and directs research-based professional development for staff, ensuring alignment with departmental goals.
  • Develops and implements Preschool department goals and objectives, recommending policies in accordance with regulations.
  • Reviews and assesses departmental needs related to preschool, directing the development of the department's work plan.
  • Manages and directs programs associated with Exceptional Children (EC) Preschool, including itinerant education services.
  • Monitors and schedules EC Preschool evaluations and participates in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Supervises and supports EC Preschool staff, including teachers and service providers.
  • Manages data collection and compliance with state and federal outcome indicators for exceptional children.
  • Completes the Developmental Day grant and manages the IDEA 619 Grant for Preschool.
  • Facilitates the special education referral process and coordinates community screenings.
  • Consults with EC leadership on special education issues and manages compliance indicators.
  • Develops budgets and coordinates with departments to maximize services while ensuring compliance with policies.
  • Responds to inquiries and complaints related to preschool programs from stakeholders.
  • Serves as a liaison between schools and community organizations to ensure smooth transitions for children.
  • Coordinates recruitment and interviewing of preschool staff and maintains relationships with external agencies.
  • Prepares and presents reports and assists the Chief Academic Officer with district activities.
