About The Position

As Director of Platform Engineering for DTCC’s Enterprise Scheduling Platform Team, you will lead the modernization of critical scheduling and orchestration systems by implementing and managing Apache Airflow in a public cloud environment. This strategic role drives DTCC’s cloud transformation, enabling advanced workflow automation and resiliency across the organization. You will oversee enterprise-scale Airflow adoption in partnership with vendors like AWS/Astronomer, manage and grow a distributed team of 6–10 engineers, and foster an automation-first culture that accelerates modernization goals. With plans to expand the team and platform capabilities over the next few years, this position offers a unique opportunity to shape DTCC’s next-generation orchestration strategy while collaborating with partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure and platform engineering (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Proven experience implementing Airflow or similar orchestration tools at enterprise scale.
  • Strong understanding of scheduling platforms and workflow orchestration in hybrid environments.
  • Experience driving modernization initiatives and lifecycle upgrades.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes.
  • Skilled in stakeholder management and vendor coordination.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Astronomer or other managed Airflow service providers.
  • Exposure to resiliency planning and high-availability architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Platform Modernization: Drive the modernization of DTCC’s enterprise scheduling and orchestration platforms in public cloud environments.
  • Airflow Implementation: Oversee enterprise-level implementation and adoption of Apache Airflow (via Astronomer or AWS) in a public cloud setting.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and grow a global team of 6–10 engineers, fostering a culture of automation-first principles and operational excellence.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with application development, data teams, and infrastructure groups to accelerate modernization goals and enable advanced orchestration capabilities.
  • Strategic Planning & Governance: Define scheduling strategy, ensure resiliency and high availability, and maintain compliance with regulatory and security standards.
  • Vendor Management: Engage with external service providers for Airflow implementation and support.
  • Customer Engagement: Coordinate across multiple locations and travel twice yearly to Dallas and Jersey City for alignment and team engagement.
