About The Position

We’re hiring a hands-on Director, Platform Data Solution Architect to design and govern the end-to-end web and mobile app data collection architecture from client-side instrumentation through server-side pipelines so that downstream analytics, experimentation, personalization, and activation teams receive high-fidelity, privacy-compliant, well-documented event data. This role partners deeply with Engineering, Product, Marketing, Analytics, and Privacy/Legal to define standards, build reusable patterns, and operationalize measurement at scale. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. • 7+ years in web data architecture / analytics engineering / digital instrumentation, including web + mobile app event data
  • 4+ years experience of web instrumentation: data layer design, tag managers, SPA tracking, first-party cookies/storage, cross-domain
  • 4+ years experience iOS/Android event logging, background/foreground behavior, offline queueing, retries
  • 4+ years experience streaming + batch architectures, schema evolution, data modeling, partitioning, performance tuning
  • 4+ years experience translating ambiguous business measurement goals into precise technical requirements and implementation specs
  • 4+ years experience working with privacy/compliance teams to build privacy-safe measurement solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the reference architecture for event instrumentation across, Web tag management, SDKs, edge/server-side, consent gating Mobile (iOS/Android) via native SDKs, wrappers, and mobile CDP/analytics SDKs
  • Define and enforce event taxonomy, naming conventions, parameter schemas, identity strategy, and versioning (e.g., semantic versions for events).
  • Design patterns for high-traffic and modern frameworks: React/Next.js, Angular, Vue, native iOS/Android, React Native/Flutter (as applicable). Establish data layer contracts (web) and tracking interfaces (app) that decouple product code from analytics providers. Identity, consent, and privacy-by-design
  • Design identity resolution across anonymous → authenticated transitions using: First-party identifiers, device IDs (where allowed), account IDs, hashed IDs Sessionization strategy and cross-domain/app-web linking (where compliant) Implement consent-aware signal collection Consent Mode / CMP integrations, purpose-based gating, regional rules
  • Data minimization: collect only what’s necessary; field-level controls Ensure compliance with applicable privacy/security policies:
  • Build a measurement QA framework: Automated validation of events/parameters vs schema (CI checks, contract tests)
  • Runtime monitoring (volume anomalies, null rates, cardinality spikes)
  • Debug pipelines (tag debugger, proxy logs, network captures, mobile logs)
  • Create dashboards and alerts for data health (e.g., Datadog/Grafana/CloudWatch/Azure Monitor).
  • Data classification, retention, encryption, access controls, auditability DPIAs/PIAs, security reviews, and partner/vendor data sharing controls
