Job Details The Manager of Physical Therapy Services is responsible for coordinating and managing the daily operations of the Physical Therapy Department. This role provides both administrative leadership and clinical Physical Therapy services while ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, effective staff management, and efficient use of resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy
  • Current New York State Physical Therapy License and Registration
  • BLS Certification required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of prior clinical experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the daily operations of the Physical Therapy Services Department
  • Establish, implement, and maintain departmental policies and procedures
  • Observe, evaluate, and provide feedback on departmental staff performance
  • Act as a resource for staff, students, orientees, and volunteers
  • Participate in hospital committees as assigned
  • Support and promote the Mission and Vision of the Hospital
  • Coordinate, finalize, and manage staff schedules, including contingency staffing to meet patient care needs
  • Assign and manage shift-to-patient workloads to ensure appropriate coverage
  • Recruit, interview, orient, and onboard new Physical Therapy staff
  • Respond to employee questions, concerns, complaints, and grievances in a timely and professional manner
  • Coordinate staff development, education, and in-service training based on departmental and individual needs
  • Provide orientation and ongoing support for new personnel
  • Provide Physical Therapy services as required
  • Demonstrate competency in caring for patients of all age groups, considering their unique needs and behaviors
  • Adapt to changes in workload and patient assignments while maintaining safe and appropriate patient care
  • Respond appropriately in emergency situations
  • Recognize personal limitations and seek additional knowledge or assistance when needed
  • Establish and oversee departmental quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Quality Improvement Department
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission (JCAHO), NYSDOH, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
  • Identify key indicators to monitor the quality and appropriateness of Physical Therapy care
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient care, statistical, personnel, and quality improvement data
  • Maintain departmental and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, and environmental standards
  • Facilitate effective communication between Physical Therapy Services, patients, physicians, caregivers, and hospital staff
  • Follow up on patient, physician, visitor, and internal customer concerns in a timely and professional manner
  • Utilize appropriate interpersonal skills in all interactions
  • Gather data to assess departmental needs and resource utilization
  • Prepare, analyze, and review the departmental budget and make appropriate recommendations
  • Manage and maintain departmental information systems
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and recommend repair or replacement
  • Order and maintain Physical Therapy supplies and equipment
  • Ensure safe and efficient use of all equipment and supplies
  • Maintain and enhance professional knowledge through continuing education
  • Present educational in-services to departmental staff
  • Routinely review departmental operations and benchmark data to improve efficiency and resource management
