About The Position

The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the Clinical and Administrative direction of the pharmacy department, assuring the delivery of the highest possible level of pharmaceutical care and information to patients and related healthcare professionals.

Requirements

Baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy.
Must possess valid licensure in state of employment.
Minimum of three years pharmacist experience with at least one in a managerial capacity.
Must possess the physical ability needed to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently; and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.

Responsibilities

Prepares annual personnel and capital equipment budget.
Prepares justification for additional personnel, equipment and programs.
Develops policies and procedures and assures compliance thereof.
Provides orientation to new pharmacy and hospital employees to pharmacy procedures and services as required.
Supervises, schedules and evaluates all clinical and supportive pharmacy personnel.
Controls all pharmacy purchasing and inventories.
Establishes retail price levels under approved guidelines.
Controls all controlled substances and tax free alcohol in the unit.
Maintains proper communication and coordination with other hospital departments and medical staff.
Maintains hospital formulary.
Maintains the drug distribution system of the unit hospital.
Maintains and supervises satellite pharmacy departments in surrounding areas.
Develops and participates in educational programs for the hospital, community, Pharmacy Technician Program and pharmacy interns and externs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Maintenance of adequate and proper records (Tax Free Alcohol, Controlled Substances, department statistical data, etc.) and submission of proper reports to ARH, federal and state agencies.
Development and maintenance of department services which meet the needs of patients and other healthcare professionals.
Preparation of and compliance with department budget.
Provide for educational needs of department and unit employees and medical staff.
Justification of all program, personnel and equipment requests and implementation of same.
Maintenance of adequate inventory levels for routine and emergency needs.
Proper supervision of all department personnel and satellite operations.
Maintenance of communications with other hospital departments, medical staff and the community.
Properly monitoring patient’s therapy and initiating corrective action as required.
Properly compounding and dispensing medication orders and providing accurate therapy information to patients, physicians and other healthcare related personnel.
