About The Position

GENERAL OVERVIEW: The Director of Perioperative Services is responsible for the day-to-day operations, where applicable by entity, for the Operating Room, Recovery Room, Endoscopy Lab, Central Sterile Processing, Ambulatory Surgery, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiology and Pre-Admission Testing. This includes operational and capital budgeting for these areas, as well as safety and quality initiatives, human capital development, and growth. This position is accountable to the Vice President of Perioperative Services, with dual reporting responsibilities to the hospital executive team. At Allegheny General Hospital, this role oversees a high-volume, high-acuity, and large-scope perioperative service line, supporting a diverse patient population and complex procedures, including specialized services such as trauma and transplant care. Will oversee these departments: Operating Room Sterile Processing Pre/Post GI Lab Cath/EP 7 direct reports Approximately 400 indirect Recognized as AORN Center of Excellence in Surgical Safety – Prevention of RSI

Requirements

Minimum Master's degree (M. A.) OR equivalent; OR in Master's degree program with completion plan
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing
Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
Current State of PA RN licensure OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
CPR certification

Responsibilities

Leads, mentor, and develops a high-performing team of perioperative nurses and support staff.
Provides regular performance feedback, coaching, and training opportunities.
Cultivates a positive, inclusive, and diverse work environment that values teamwork and recognizes individual contributions.
Develops and implements programs to reward and incentivize staff.
Promotes staff engagement through participation in surveys (Core Behavior Survey, NDNQI Nurse Satisfaction Survey) and provides coaching and action planning support to managers based on survey results.
Leads and supports the development and ongoing operation of a Shared Governance model across all departments, empowering staff to participate in decision making.
This includes managing a large and diverse team across multiple specialized units to meet the demands of a high-volume, high-acuity environment.
Directs all clinical services and program development for the Operating Room, Recovery Room, Endoscopy Lab, Central Sterile Processing, Ambulatory Surgery, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiology and Preadmission Testing., where applicable by entity
This includes staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and budget management.
This encompasses strategic oversight and operational management of a large number of operating rooms and procedure suites, coordinating a high volume of complex surgical cases and significant resource allocation, including specialized services such as trauma and transplant care.
Builds and maintains strong working relationships with physicians, other department directors, and hospital leadership.
Effectively communicates departmental performance data and strategic plans to key stakeholders.
Collaborates with surgeon and anesthesia physician leadership to develop and implement initiatives to drive operational excellence and efficiency.
Establishes and maintains high standards of quality and patient safety.
Implements and monitors programs to reduce infection rates, improve patient outcomes, and enhance the overall patient experience.
Actively participates in the organization's quality improvement initiatives.
Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory standards and accrediting body requirements (e.g., The Joint Commission)
Champions the mission, vision, and values of Allegheny Health Network
Develops and manages the departmental budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and fiscal responsibility.
Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to track financial performance and identify areas for improvement.
Evaluate and implement new technologies and processes to improve efficiency, enhance patient care, and reduce costs.
Independently plans, organizes, and executes large-scale projects, managing resources effectively and meeting deadlines.
