About The Position

Discord is seeking a strategic Director, People Business Partner (PBP) to own and drive the people strategy for Discord's Engineering, Product, Analytics and Design (EPAD) organizations. This role will partner directly with our CTO, Head of Product and EPAD executives as a strategic thought partner, aligning talent strategy with business goals to solve complex challenges through a people lens. This role requires deep expertise in helping technical organizations achieve their business objectives at pre-IPO companies transitioning toward enterprise maturity.

Requirements

  • 12+ years HR experience with 8+ years in strategic HRBP roles supporting technical organizations, and 5+ years at high-growth tech companies in ambiguous, fast-evolving environments (preferably pre-IPO or recently public).
  • 5+ years people management experience with proven track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
  • Proven executive partnership experience with CTOs and leaders across Engineering, Product, Analytics, and Design functions, with ability to navigate matrix and highly cross-functional technical teams.
  • Expert coaching and relationship-building skills with ability to connect across all organizational levels, resolve conflicts, and coach leaders to elevate team effectiveness.
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills including problem-solving using data, business judgment, and risk assessment in fast-paced technical environments.
  • Deep technical talent expertise across EPAD disciplines, including career progression, retention strategies, and understanding business challenges to deliver collaborative solutions with measurable impact.
  • Change management experience leading initiatives and supporting technical organizations through enterprise maturity transformations.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the people strategy for our Engineering, Product, Analytics and Design (EPAD) teams across strategic planning, organizational design, succession, retention, development, performance management, and culture/engagement in partnership with EPAD Executives.
  • Serve as strategic thought partner to CTO, Head of Product and EPAD executives, leveraging deep business context to solve ambiguous, complex challenges through a people lens while aligning people strategy directly with business goals to drive measurable impact.
  • Proactively diagnose organizational needs and systematically address roadblocks that limit business success, leading organizational design and talent planning initiatives that support EPAD's evolving needs.
  • Cascade strategy and drive accountability across all management levels through coaching and development of EPAD leadership teams, delivered by their team of PBPs, using data-informed approaches with analytics and business metrics.
  • Partner effectively with cross-functional stakeholders including People team, Legal, Communications, and Finance to enable execution of strategy.
