About The Position

The Director, Origination is responsible for originating, structuring, and closing private credit direct lending transactions with middle-market companies across the U.S. This role involves developing and managing relationships with private equity sponsors, intermediaries, and financial institutions to achieve growth and profitability targets. The position requires a commitment to internal control and involves working with a cross-functional execution team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of transaction experience in middle-market leveraged finance, sponsor finance, or private credit.
  • Established network of middle-market private equity sponsors, intermediaries, and financial institutions.
  • Strong origination skills with a proven ability to communicate the value proposition of a non-bank independent finance company.
  • Extensive knowledge of leveraged finance and private credit markets.
  • Excellent corporate finance, credit, financial modeling, and underwriting skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Credit training and transaction underwriting experience preferred.
  • Participation in industry associations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Originate new cash flow lending opportunities with a focus on private equity sponsored middle-market companies.
  • Develop and manage relationships with targeted private equity sponsors, intermediaries, and financial institutions.
  • Review and evaluate new opportunities based on division parameters for credit, structure, Return on Assets, and strategic fit.
  • Prepare prescreen memos to review new opportunities with the team.
  • Prepare and negotiate term sheets with private equity sponsors and companies, including transaction structure, deal terms, pricing, and financial covenants.
  • Prepare financial models and other analysis as required to structure transactions and support the underwriting process.
  • Lead a cross-functional deal team through the structuring, underwriting, and closing of transactions in collaboration with credit, operations, and external counsel teams.
  • Participate in industry conferences and networking events to promote the division and maintain market visibility.
