About The Position

The Director of Operating Room (OR), Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing Services is responsible for the overall management of the OR, including surgical teams (Registered Nurses and Surgical Technicians), and Sterile Processing Services. This role ensures the delivery of safe and high-quality surgical care to both pediatric and adult trauma patients, including those in a Level I trauma center. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Master's degree in nursing or a related field such as healthcare administration or its equivalent.
  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement.
  • Certification in perioperative nursing (e.g., CNOR) preferred.
  • American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • At least 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in perioperative services.
  • At least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing both OR and Sterile Processing Services departments.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications related to surgical services, sterile processing, or trauma care are highly desirable (e.g., CSPDT, CST, or trauma certifications).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply principles of Highly Reliable Organizations (HRO).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the OR, Endoscopy and Sterile Processing Services departments, ensuring optimal workflow.
  • Leverage technology and informatics solutions to enhance patient care outcomes.
  • Lead the integration of the OR and Sterile Processing Services departments under a unified vision that fosters collaboration.
  • Develop and implement staffing plans, manage recruitment efforts, and ensure staffing levels align with operational and patient care needs.
  • Identify and update relevant competencies for OR, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing Services staff.
  • Ensure staff have the necessary skills to provide optimal care and maintain high standards of performance.
  • Oversee retention strategies to ensure long-term staff satisfaction and engagement.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality surgical care to both pediatric and adult trauma patients.
  • Stay current with clinical advancements in perioperative services and implement evidence-based strategies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize surgical schedules and patient flow.
  • Drive performance improvements by implementing evidence-based practices.
  • Maintain standardized clinical pathways for a seamless patient journey.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Oversee risk mitigation efforts and infection control protocols.
  • Work closely with leaders across the healthcare system to standardize clinical workflows.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and shared learning across departments.
  • Oversee the development and execution of regular managerial audits.
  • Actively participate in the development and monitoring of staffing-related budgets.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality of care.
  • Collaborate with the revenue integrity finance team for accurate billing and coding.
  • Monitor departmental financial performance and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the integration & optimization of cutting-edge technologies into the OR and Sterile Processing Services.
