About The Position

We’re seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Director of Operations and Transportation to oversee the infrastructure, logistics, and safety systems that power our Head Start programs. From managing facilities and transportation to ensuring compliance and operational excellence, this leadership role is critical to creating the safe, healthy, and effective environments where our children and staff thrive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in operations, transportation, or facilities management.
  • Prior experience managing multi-site operations and project-based work.
  • Knowledge of local and federal regulations governing childcare facilities, food service, and transportation.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally (up to 10%).
  • Physical exam and background check required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all site-level operations, including IT, facilities, food services, and transportation across centers, storage sites, and offices.
  • Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local licensing regulations, health codes, and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Oversee the transportation fleet—vehicle maintenance, insurance, inspections, and driver clearances.
  • Manage emergency preparedness, weather-related closures, and operational risk protocols.
  • Supervise contractors and internal teams handling utilities, janitorial services, safety inspections, equipment, and technology.
  • Develop scopes of work, contracts, and project plans for capital improvements and maintenance.
  • Monitor operational budgets and vendor contracts to ensure cost-efficiency and compliance.
  • Provide operational support for licensing, food handler permits, and site-based needs.
  • Collaborate with the Delegate Vice President and leadership team on strategic priorities and organizational initiatives.
