About The Position

The SBU Operational Excellence Director will be the primary coach responsible for working with the PGT leadership team for the development and implementation of lean strategies, tactics, practices and policies driving the sustainable lean transformation for the end-to-end value streams and the entire business operation. Included in this role is the oversight and management of the SBU’s Operational Excellence Deployment Plan (OEDP), the deployment and capability maturation of the lean business operating system (BOS), as well as the development of OpEx capability in the culture, leadership and social (people) side of the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or related discipline desired (or equivalent education/ training/ experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years of documented world class lean manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing related safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of personal computer applications required (Excel, Word, Visio, and PP). Excellent Team Facilitation Skills
  • Extensive Gemba based continuous improvement, strong proficiency in lean tools/techniques required.
  • Excellent leadership skills particularly selling, influencing, coaching and teaching capabilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills with the ability to speak and communicate effectively with both senior management and hourly associates
  • Ability to assign priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Ability to interpret manufacturing schematics and blueprints.
  • Able to mentor and facilitate lean culture change in an environment with varying levels of acceptance

Responsibilities

  • Works with the PGT leadership team to define and educate workforce on OpEx (Lean) philosophies, principles and practices with the expectation of delivering improvements in first time quality, safety, cycle time reduction, cost reduction, waste elimination increased capacity and improved efficiency, and ultimately the engagement levels of people at all levels and functions
  • Works with site training departments to develop programs to support the education of the workforce on OpEx (Lean) tools and concepts such as Kanban, Kaizen (RIE’s, JDI’s), Value Stream Analysis, visual management, pull, one piece flow, error-proofing, problem solving, A3 Thinking, 5S and cellular manufacturing.
  • Acts as a personal coach and sensei and works with the PGT team to develop plans to continuously develop capabilities in all levels of management from front line leaders to executives for IR leadership competencies, MDI, problem solving and continuous improvement
  • Utilizes lean thinking and tools to identify growth opportunities through a cycle reduction approach; then conducts economic feasibility studies for projects identified through the VSA and individual lean events, collects and analyzes data and provides proposals to management.
  • Analyzes cost estimates and proposed capital expenditures for new projects to verify appropriate increment of capacity with maximum flexibility and minimal cost to support a lean environment and lean criteria.
  • Works with value stream teams to prioritize the lean projects that are identified and approved.
  • Works with manufacturing, logistics, materials management, quality and all business functions packaging to improve productivity through measurements. analysis, development and implementation of tools such as changeover reduction, process performance, downtime analysis and cycle time reduction.
  • Leads coaches and site leaders in educating the  workforce on lean manufacturing tools and concepts including 3P,kanban, kaizen, value stream mapping, visual management, andon escalation process, pull systems, mistake proofing, TPM,  5S and cellular manufacturing
  • Assists leadership teams in setting and measurement of actual performance against productivity standards.
  • Conducts workshops and provides sensei support to others in connection with Kaizen (RIE/JDI) events.
  • Develops, measures and reports on all required GDP, OpEx, and related financial and other performance metrics.
  • Assists Product Launch Managers and Project Managers in following all aspects of IRPDP process requirements through all new product programs.
  • Supports the successful deployment of Sales Excellence and Growth Excellence enabling initiatives
  • Coordinates efforts associated with monthly MOR activity, OEPD discussions and lean workshops
  • Supports and meets Departmental, Plant and Corporate HS&E goals. Works in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
