About The Position

The Director of the Office of Health Equity and Climate Medicine Research at Stony Brook University is a leadership role focused on advancing health equity and climate medicine through innovative research and strategic collaborations. Requirements

  • Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Public Health, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of full-time relevant research experience, with demonstrated expertise in health equity, climate change, and public health.
  • Experience working with the social determinants of health.
  • Experience with research methodologies, data analysis, and evaluation techniques.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with grant writing and securing funding for research initiatives.
  • Management experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Public Health, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) years of full-time relevant research experience, with demonstrated expertise in health equity, climate change, and public health.
  • Experience working in health equity, climate medicine, or a related interdisciplinary area.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a visionary research agenda focused on health equity and climate medicine.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Health Equity Officer to align research initiatives with organizational goals and public health priorities.
  • Provide strategic direction for the Office, ensuring alignment with broader health equity and climate action initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with academic institutions, governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, and community stakeholders.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance the scope and impact of research initiatives.
  • Engage with community members to ensure research priorities reflect the needs and experiences of affected populations.
  • Lead the design, execution, and evaluation of research projects that investigate the health impacts of climate change on marginalized communities.
  • Ensure adherence to ethical research practices and maintain high standards of scientific integrity.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences to disseminate research outcomes.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support research initiatives, including grants and partnerships.
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals, ensuring alignment with funding agency priorities and organizational objectives.
  • Develop training programs and workshops to build capacity in health equity and climate medicine research among staff, partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Mentor and supervise research staff, fostering professional development and growth.
  • Serve as a key spokesperson for the Office on issues related to health equity and climate change, advocating for policies that promote health equity and environmental justice.
  • Collaborate with policymakers to translate research findings into actionable public health strategies.

Benefits

  • $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
  • Eligible to participate in a remote work pilot program, allowing for up to 5 remote days per pay period.
