Job Summary The Director of System Fleet is responsible for overseeing the companys general fleet operations across all locations, ensuring optimal utilization, safety, growth, and compliance of tractors, trailers, and related equipment. This role provides strategic leadership for fleet acquisition, lifecycle management, and technology integration while driving cost efficiency and operational performance. The Director partners with maintenance, operations, and safety teams to ensure the fleet supports company goals and customer commitments. The Director will also have customer relations and sales responsibilities that center around growth and synergy with current customer base.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in business, logistics, supply chain, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in fleet management, transportation, or logistics.
  • Strong knowledge of tractor and trailer specifications, lifecycle management, and fleet optimization strategies.
  • Experience managing large-scale, multi-location fleets in a one way transportation environment.
  • Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and EPA regulations.
  • Proven ability to develop cost-control measures and drive efficiency improvements.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with fleet management software, telematics, and data reporting tools.
  • Experience with sales and customer relationships in a one way transportation setting

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and oversight for fleet operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance across all regions.
  • Develops and executes strategies for fleet acquisition, replacement, and lifecycle management.
  • Monitors fleet utilization, performance metrics, and cost per mile to improve operational efficiency.
  • Partners with Maintenance and Operations to maximize equipment uptime and reduce repair costs.
  • Leads fleet technology initiatives, including telematics, GPS tracking, fuel management, and compliance systems.
  • Ensures compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and other federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Develops budgets and forecasts for fleet operations, capital expenditures, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Oversees asset tracking and reporting systems to ensure accuracy and accountability of fleet assets.
  • Provides leadership, training, and guidance to fleet managers and administrative staff.
  • Prepares and delivers regular reports on fleet performance, costs, and strategic initiatives to executive leadership.
  • Identifies opportunities for innovation, sustainability, and fuel efficiency in fleet operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
