About The Position

The Director of Theater Facilities at Hofstra University is responsible for overseeing the creative and administrative aspects of the university's playhouse theater. Requirements

  • Master's degree in Theater, Arts Administration, Performing Arts, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working in a higher education institution or with student-focused theater programs.
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing, fundraising, and community engagement.
  • Experience with digital media and marketing strategies for theater and arts programming.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and oversees the selection, scheduling, and production of theater performances, including student, faculty, and guest productions.
  • Leads the artistic vision for the theater, ensuring a diverse and inclusive range of performances that reflect the institution's values and academic mission.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to integrate the theater program with academic coursework and learning outcomes.
  • Identifies and cultivates new opportunities for artistic collaborations with external artists, companies, and organizations, enhancing the theater's programming and expanding its network.
  • Manages the theater's budget, including planning, monitoring, and ensuring fiscal responsibility, while exploring new revenue streams.
  • Oversees theater operations, including facility management, facility rental contracts, technical production, audience engagement, and logistical planning for all events.
  • Leads recruitment, hiring, and training of theater staff, including technical and production personnel, ushers and front of house staff, administrative support, and student assistants.
  • Provides guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for students involved in theater programs.
  • Collaborates with academic departments to create hands-on learning experiences and support curriculum development related to theater arts.
  • Acts as a key liaison between the theater and community partners, including local arts organizations, alumni, businesses, donors and sponsors, in support of building relationships to strengthen community engagement.
  • Develops and implements outreach initiatives to engage diverse community audiences and promote theater events on and off-campus.
  • Supports fundraising activities, including grant applications, sponsorships, and donor relations, to support the theater's financial sustainability.
  • Collaborates with marketing and communications teams to promote theater events, ensuring maximum visibility and audience engagement.
  • Develops and oversees a comprehensive calendar of events, ensuring a balanced and engaging lineup of performances, workshops, and special events.
  • Utilizes digital and social media platforms to expand the theater's reach and engage diverse audiences.
