About The Position

The Director of the University Counseling Center has the primary responsibility for the delivery of counseling services, assessment services, consultation, training, public relations, and outreach activities to Western Illinois University students. This position reports to the Executive Director of Student Success and Wellness and includes responsibilities such as the professional development and training of UCC personnel, providing consultation and administrative supervision for UCC staff, and ensuring the ethical delivery of counseling services. The director will also manage the budget, evaluate employees, and participate in various university committees. The position is a 12-month appointment with an expected start date of June 1, 2025.

Requirements

  • A master's or doctoral degree in mental health counseling, psychology, or social work from an accredited program.
  • Five or more years of clinical experience in a counseling setting.
  • Experience providing supervision and mental health counseling services to traditional-age college students.
  • Current clinical license in any state and ability to obtain an Illinois clinical license within the first year of employment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, budgetary, public relations, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver counseling services, assessment services, consultation, training, public relations, and outreach activities to students.
  • Oversee professional development, training, and assignment of duties to UCC personnel.
  • Provide consultation and administrative supervision for UCC staff.
  • Ensure ethical delivery of counseling services in accordance with laws and professional codes.
  • Provide consultation services for students and community members facing mental health issues.
  • Deliver direct counseling and assessment services to students as schedule permits.
  • Manage the budget and ensure accurate accounting practices for UCC accounts.
  • Evaluate all employees in the UCC.
  • Develop and evaluate all services provided by the UCC.
  • Serve on the Emergency Consultation Team and participate in after-hours on-call consultation.
  • Participate in the Threat Assessment Team and carry out related duties.
  • Maintain professional relationships with university and community entities.
  • Participate in departmental and university-wide committees.
  • Produce the annual report and strategic plan.
