About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for a Director of the School of First Year Experiences to begin Fall 2026. TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. For more information, please visit https://www.tamiu.edu/ This is a an administrative position (12 months) with faculty status depending on rank. Advanced tenure-track, tenured, and professional faculty are encouraged to apply. Depending on rank and experience, tenure can be negotiated upon hire. Primary duties will include overseeing all aspects of the school, including courses, curricula, faculty, and program development. Responsibilities also include reviewing and improving programs, curricula, courses, and faculty performance; administering signature initiatives such as Reading the Globe; organizing freshman rallies and engagement activities; and helping to coordinate developmental courses in mathematics and in writing. Duties also include teaching one class per semester, helping to secure grants for innovation, capacity-building, and program development. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. COAS is the largest unit on campus with 8 departments, over 130 full-time faculty, and nearly 4,000 students. COAS offers 34 bachelors, 13 masters, and 1 PhD degrees. The School of First Year Experiences is an academic department within COAS, and the school has approximately 11 faculty.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in any of the academic disciplines in the College Art and Sciences.
  • Must have experience in 1) academic program/curriculum design, development and innovation; 2) managing and supervising faculty and staff; 3) working with other units with and outside the college context.
  • The ability to work with multiple stakeholders across the campus and in the community.
