The Director of the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives at LaGuardia Community College is a pivotal role responsible for managing and developing the Archives' collections. This position requires close coordination with program directors to produce educational and outreach programs while overseeing the budget and daily operations of the Archives. The successful candidate will be expected to build strong relationships with CUNY and government officials to ensure the continued success of the Archives. The role includes a phased retirement process where the new director will work alongside the current director during the spring semesters for a smooth transition. Key responsibilities include overseeing the management of all collections within the Archives inventory, developing strategies for building and maintaining these collections, and setting priorities for their physical organization and preservation. The director will also lead operational and financial management processes, making decisions that balance operational and strategic considerations, and using metrics to support these decisions. Additionally, the director will provide support to the Director of Education for the Gardiner-Shenker Student Scholars program, which involves students conducting archival research and collaborating with LaGuardia faculty. Collaboration is a significant aspect of this role, as the director will work with the Director of LGBTQIA+ programs to promote and expand the LGBTQIA+ CUNY Consortium and develop outreach and educational programming. The director will also facilitate partnerships between faculty and students on research projects based on the Archives collections, promoting the use of the Archives for teaching and learning. Furthermore, the director will manage a portfolio of education programs, engage with gift prospects for cultivating and soliciting donations, and oversee the production and promotion of Archives publications. The role also includes direct oversight of the cold storage space for Archives collections and ensuring safe access to these collections. The director will be responsible for expanding the Archives' educational and outreach programs within the local community, managing a staff of 5 or more, and supporting the development of team and individual goals. This position is crucial for the ongoing development and delivery of programs that reflect the mission of LaGuardia Community College and its commitment to serving diverse populations.
