McDonogh School operates one of the finest riding programs in the area, featuring exceptional facilities that include both indoor and outdoor competition rings, 40 acres of turnout with 25 paddocks for private turnouts, a 70-stall barn, and a 50-stall competition stabling building, along with a 3-bay auxiliary supply building. The new Director of the Equestrian Center will be responsible for managing these equestrian facilities and the associated physical resources. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including the maintenance of the equestrian center, management of supplies, horse leases, and facility rentals. The Director will also be tasked with expense budgeting and reporting related to the equestrian center, collaborating closely with the Director of Riding on a daily basis. The essential functions of this position include maintaining the physical plant, which involves all grounds, building, and equipment maintenance. The Director will prepare all show grounds for horse shows and rentals, assisting with shows as needed. They will coordinate purchasing for supplies related to equestrian care and facilities maintenance, which includes feed, hay, manure disposal, tack, and other horse show needs. Additionally, the Director will manage all facility rentals and related contracts associated with the equestrian center, oversee the boarding of non-McDonogh horses, and ensure proper maintenance and preparation for lessons, boarding, and equine care in collaboration with the Director of Riding. The role also requires collaboration with the Directors of Facilities, Grounds, and Housekeeping to ensure that all facility needs are met. The Director will manage all construction and renovation projects at the equestrian center, ensure that all jumps and other show equipment are maintained and meet safety requirements, and manage pest control. Furthermore, the Director will supervise barn help and manage stabling requests, ensuring a well-organized and efficient operation of the equestrian center.
