The Director of the Automotive & Diesel Technology Program will manage disciplines within each school under supervision of the Dean. The nation's most prestigious recognition of Community College Excellence, the Aspen Institute's Aspen Prize, awarded Odessa College its Rising Star Award in 2017, which ranked Odessa College among the top five in the nation for improving and advancing student achievement out of 1100 eligible institutions.

  • Manage day to day operations of the department.
  • Coordinate programs in the department.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field.
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the college including CollegeNOW Academy (Dual Credit) classes.
  • Utilize appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
  • Provide students with written expectations, e.g., syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, etc.
  • Administer assessments which are appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam measuring overall grasp of course objectives by various ways and means of instructing students, affirming the worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn.
  • Maintain an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, web, or distance, which encourages the free exchange of ideas while defending academic honesty and objectivity.
  • Prepare adequately for class and arrive promptly at class meetings, labs, and any other scheduled instructional activities.
  • Deliver material in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Address student concerns, i.e., comments, questions, and input, both in class and via posted office hours, timely electronic communication, and other suitable means.
  • Effectively handle routine procedures necessary for the successful, day-to-day operation of the department as department director.
  • Submit required reports and schedules in a timely manner to the department director.
  • Maintain effective relationships with professional counterparts throughout the college and the community.
  • Maintain individual student advisement on degree plans and degree applications in order to comply with completion requirements.
  • Assist with recruiting, marketing, and outreach for department programs.
  • Actively participate in college functions and events, and engage in community service.
  • Ensure compliance with instructional practices.
  • Manage, budget, and order supplies.
  • Schedule department meetings and maintain minutes to submit to the Dean of the School.
  • Lead class observations for returning faculty.
  • Support LED and faculty in Core Program Outcome documentation and assist in assessment.
  • Hire adjuncts and oversee adjunct support plan.
  • Initial signature for forms (leave, incompletes, student schedule changes, etc.).
  • Oversee curricular development.
  • Attend meetings as scheduled.
  • Perform annual faculty evaluations.
  • Address student complaints.
  • Attend completion ceremonies, such as college graduation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Credentialed and qualified to serve as full-time faculty in the program areas they lead.
  • Teaching experience.
