About The Position

The Director of Superconducting Technology at Bruker OST is a senior executive role focused on leading the development of new superconducting products and technologies. This position involves strategic planning, managing supplier development projects, and ensuring alignment with customer needs while overseeing departmental budgets and fostering relationships with key stakeholders. The director will also engage in troubleshooting and corrective action activities to enhance product quality and performance.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in materials science, physics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in applied superconductivity and a proven record of new technology and product development.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed technical literature.
  • Extensive superconductor development and manufacturing experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • At least 10 years of technical and/or operational management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to distill information from multiple sources to resolve complex problems.
  • Capability to develop and manage long-term plans while also addressing immediate technical issues.
  • Facilitator skills for leading cross-functional teams and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and lead technology and product development programs in low temperature superconductor Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn systems.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers to build relationships and resolve technical issues related to manufacturing, cost, and product use.
  • Support other business functions to meet customer requirements and business objectives.
  • Maintain and manage the departmental budget.
  • Develop technical staff and manage performance and succession planning.
  • Seek and obtain external funding for new product initiatives.
  • Create and manage short-, mid-, and long-term goals and objectives.
  • Conduct business review meetings with key stakeholders to assess risk and identify new product opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other managers and key customers, suppliers, and collaborators.
  • Develop new technologies or products to meet stakeholder expectations, focusing on market share and financial measures.
  • Generate intellectual property, including patent applications.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction with product development paths, measured by external funding and collaborations.
