About The Position

The Director of Student Services at Kern Community College District is responsible for overseeing and managing various student support programs, including EOPS, DSPS, CARE, and CalWORKs. Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college/university, preferably in Counseling, Guidance, Student Affairs or Educational Psychology.
  • Four years of progressively responsible administrative experience in educational programs or related fields, particularly with ethnic minorities or disadvantaged individuals.
  • Experience as a DSPS Coordinator or in a similar role, with two years of full-time experience in relevant fields.
  • Completion of six units of college-level coursework related to ethnic minorities or disadvantaged individuals.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and disability backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of EOPS/CARE, DSPS, and CalWORKs programs, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Ability to manage a complex budget and supervise staff effectively.
  • Experience in developing annual calendars and ensuring compliance with deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management, planning, implementation, and budget management of EOP&S, DSPS, CARE, CalWORKs, and related programs.
  • Ensure requisite services and student success interventions are provided, including program intake, orientation, and counseling.
  • Recommend policies and procedures for all components related to the programs.
  • Evaluate and monitor data for accuracy and maintain records required by regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare and monitor administrative budgets and expenditures in consultation with the Vice President of Student Services.
  • Assess student needs and provide appropriate support services.
  • Assist in designing and assessing institutional research focusing on student outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and submit annual plans and reports related to the programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student success and learning.
  • Serve on college and district committees as assigned.
