About The Position

The Director of the Student Counseling Center is responsible for overseeing the services provided, while also providing individual counseling, crisis intervention, wellness services and human growth and development activities for students, thereby promoting student learning by encouraging outcomes such as intellectual growth, ability to communicate effectively, capacity for realistic self-appraisal, enhanced self-esteem, clarification of values, meaningful interpersonal relations, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and achievement of personal goals.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology, Clinical Social Work or related field with 5-8 years of experience
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport quickly and establish therapeutic relationships with diverse populations
  • Strong crisis intervention and management skills with ability to respond effectively to emergency situations
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with emphasis on active listening and empathy
  • Proven cultural competence and ability to work with diverse student populations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to maintain accurate clinical documentation
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Skilled in developing and delivering educational programming and presentations
  • Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example
  • Must be a professional, credible and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous manner

Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health services to enrolled students through individual counseling sessions, addressing a wide range of mental health issues.
  • Manage and supervise all services provided by the Student Counseling Center to ensure they meet the needs of the student body.
  • Supervise daily operations of the Student Counseling Center, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Provide direct clinical supervision to counselors and mental health professionals, ensuring adherence to best practices and professional standards.
  • Complete all required documentation and administrative paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain comprehensive and confidential records of student interactions and services provided.
  • Collaborate with other campus offices, faculty, staff, and community agencies to develop and implement outreach activities, services, and programming that support student wellness.
  • Participate in campus-wide initiatives aimed at promoting mental health and well-being among the student population.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with trends and issues in higher education counseling centers and the broader mental health field.
