About The Position

UAM, one of twenty campuses of the University of Arkansas System, is located in southeastern Arkansas in the beautiful timberlands, rich in outdoor recreation activities, and approximately 100 miles south of Little Rock. UAM is a comprehensive, residential and commuter, undergraduate institution also offering selected master’s degree programs. The primary responsibility of the Director of Student Activities is the development and administration of comprehensive and holistic student programming, fostering student growth and development. This includes the recruitment, development, assessment and evaluation of and retention of graduate assistants and student staff.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in higher education, student personnel, or social or behavioral sciences.
  • At least two years’ experience in student programming on a college or university campus is preferred.
  • The successful candidate shall have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff, and a high-level of energy and enthusiasm.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the role of student involvement in overall student engagement, retention, and success.

Nice To Haves

  • It is important, recommended, and preferred that the successful candidate have experience in Greek Life.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advisory support to all Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs), the Student Government Association (SGA), the Student Activities Board (SAB), and Greek Council (fraternities and sororities)
  • Advise, counsel, guide, and coordinate student organizations in planning, advertising, resource management, and faculty/staff advisor information
  • Advise student leaders and student organizations on programs and events
  • Provide on-site supervision of events and activities at night and on weekends
  • Arrange, plan, market, and evaluate student or departmental programs
  • Produce reports and conduct program evaluations for campus-wide programming
  • Manage all aspects of the Greek Life program including budget, special events, eligibility, recruitment, as well as maintain relationships with members of the Greek Community, Greek advisors and national and international organizations
  • Monitor the effectiveness of student organizations as they fulfill their mission and purpose and develop plans in order to foster continuous improvement and growth
  • Develop and deliver a leadership program that will serve the student organizations on campus
  • Supervise student workers and graduate assistant(s)
  • Update the Recognized Student Organization (RSO) handbook and publications
  • Assist with budget supervision and development
  • Special events for which the Director is responsible includes, but is not limited to: Homecoming festivities, Welcome Week, Orientation, Holiday Festival Week, Black History Month, Greek Week, Spring Fling and other programs/duties as assigned.
  • This position requires night and weekend work.
