About The Position

The Director of Student Accounts reports to the Student Financials Systems Architect and is responsible for the effective and efficient management of student financial transactions, with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and service excellence. This position oversees the administration of Veteran and Military Benefits funding, Skills Training Workforce Ready Grant funding, student refund processing, and payment reconciliation. The Director ensures student accounts are managed in strict adherence to college policies, state and federal regulations, and audit requirements. This role provides day-to-day direction to the Assistant Director of Student Accounts and collaborates with key campus departments to resolve issues, implement process improvements, and streamline operations for optimal student financial services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of experience in student accounts, accounts receivable, or a closely related financial operations field, preferably in a college or university setting.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or lead experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Proven ability to self-manage workload, prioritize competing tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive, ownership-oriented approach.
  • Willingness to learn new systems, functions, and technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the invoicing, payment processing, refunds, and reconciliation for Veteran and Military Benefits funding and Skills Training Workforce Ready Grant funding.
  • Serve as a point of contact for student refund processing, including posting refund voids, reviewing daily refund reports for errors, and ensuring timely issuance of refunds in accordance with institutional policies.
  • Reconcile payments for bank deposits.
  • Create invoices and process payments for non-student receivables.
  • Record, monitor, and respond to credit card chargeback disputes.
  • Address and resolve ServiceNow tickets related to Student Accounts Receivable in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders, including responding to student account-related inquiries.
  • Prepare and disseminate student account reports to internal stakeholders and campus partners.
  • Ensure student accounts are managed in compliance with college policies, state and federal regulations, and audit guidelines.
  • Maintain current and accurate documentation of student account policies and procedures.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements related to student accounts operations to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service quality.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and oversight to the Assistant Director of Student Accounts, including workload coordination, cross-training, and quality review.
  • All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
