About The Position

The Director of Strategic Communications and Community Partnerships oversees the County's communications, public affairs, and civic engagement efforts. This role leads the Communications and Community Affairs divisions, ensuring strategies effectively connect residents to County resources and services. The position requires significant independence, initiative, and expertise in public policy and community relations, providing high-level strategic direction and ensuring alignment across the County's public affairs and communication strategies.

Requirements

• Seven years of progressive management experience in public affairs and communications.
• Bachelor of Arts in Marketing or related field.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring alignment across all information channels, including social media, by developing cohesive communication strategies that maintain consistency, clarity, and effectiveness in messaging to diverse audiences.
• Serve as a strategic advisor, providing highly responsible and complex professional assistance to the County Executive, Board of Supervisors, and senior leadership on communication and engagement aspects of key initiatives and policies.
• Act as a spokesperson and key point of contact, effectively representing the organization, its leadership, or key issues to the media, stakeholders, and the community with clarity and professionalism.
• Evaluate community engagement and communication efforts and strategize ways to further strengthen relations with San Mateo County community and the public.
• Enhance community engagement strategies to build stronger connections between the County and its diverse residents.
• Oversee divisional budgets, performance, and programs to ensure alignment with the County's goals and priorities.
