About The Position

The Director of Store Development & Real Estate oversees the full lifecycle of store development for Batteries Plus, leading all strategy and execution related to real estate, construction, design, and signage. This role drives the company's physical expansion by identifying new store opportunities, negotiating leases, managing construction projects, and optimizing the overall real estate portfolio. With responsibility for both franchise and corporate locations, the Director ensures every project meets brand standards, supports operational excellence, and delivers strong financial outcomes. This position leads a high-performing team and works cross-functionally to support the ongoing growth of the Batteries Plus footprint.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Real Estate, Project Management, or related field required
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in multi-unit retail store development.
  • At least 5 years of people management experience.
  • Proven expertise in site selection, lease negotiation, and real estate financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of architectural drawings, construction methods, and permitting processes.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and change management skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.

  • MBA strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, layout, and construction of new stores, remodels, and conversions.
  • Oversee timelines, budgets, and franchisee investments to ensure efficient and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Manage national sign vendor relationships and ensure signage meets local permitting and landlord requirements.
  • Partner with internal teams and external contractors to ensure smooth, on-time project turnover.
  • Direct the strategy for identifying and evaluating potential store locations using market research and demographic analysis.
  • Lead all lease negotiations and property acquisition efforts to support franchise and corporate expansion.
  • Manage the real estate portfolio to optimize the company's physical presence and financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and franchising requirements related to real estate operations.
  • Develop, lead, and coach the Store Development & Real Estate team, driving accountability and operational excellence.
  • Establish and track KPIs, using data to make process and performance improvement recommendations.
  • Enforce governance policies to ensure efficient and secure use of invested resources.
