About The Position

The Director of Staff Development (DSD) is a leadership role within a nursing home facility, responsible for overseeing the education and training of nursing staff, including LVNs and CNAs. The DSD ensures compliance with regulatory standards while promoting a high quality of care and life for residents. This position requires strong leadership skills, effective communication, and a commitment to staff development and teamwork.

Requirements

• Current CA DSD Certification, CPR/1st Aid, and active LVN/RN license in good standing during employment.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a skilled nursing facility (SNF), acute care, or hospital environment.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal relationship skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patient and company proprietary information.
• Effective communication skills with all facility staff members.
• Interest and awareness of changes and advancements in geriatric nursing and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provides quality of care and quality of life to residents at all times.
• Executes orientation for all new employees and conducts in-services for staff in compliance with Title 22.
• Conducts random competency tests after in-services.
• Plans and provides an annual schedule of planned educational programs.
• Maintains current nursing CNA training documentation and employee documentation in organized files for survey or audit at any time.
• Performs duties consistent with Federal and State regulations and governmental laws, including other duties as assigned.
• Works closely with the MDS coordinator and medical records department on CNA entries and quality of work.
• Audits CNA entries in electronic records, ensuring thorough documentation of care services and addressing discrepancies immediately.
• Responsible for maintaining nursing hours to comply with PPD.
• Manages Workers Compensation claims.
