About The Position

The Director of Staff Development at Verdugo Valley Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, direction, and evaluation of educational programs for all employees within the facility. This position operates under the guidance of the Administrator and collaborates closely with the Director of Nurses to ensure that the educational needs of the staff are met effectively. The Director of Staff Development is tasked with enhancing the quality assurance and improvement processes within the facility, ensuring that all staff members are well-trained and compliant with state and federal regulations. In this role, the Director will coordinate the orientation process for new employees, ensuring they receive comprehensive theoretical and clinical training. This includes maintaining accurate documentation of all orientation materials and health screenings, as well as reviewing essential policies such as the Blood Borne Pathogen Policy. The Director will also be responsible for developing and conducting ongoing in-service training programs to meet the annual educational requirements for nursing assistants and other staff members. This includes scheduling and coordinating mandatory training sessions and maintaining a yearly calendar of educational events. The Director of Staff Development will also oversee the performance evaluations of nursing assistants, ensuring that they receive the necessary supervision and training to perform their duties effectively. This includes conducting annual proficiency evaluations and providing in-service classes as needed. The Director will play a crucial role in monitoring compliance with infection control policies and will act as the Infection Control Coordinator, ensuring that all staff members adhere to established safety protocols. Administrative responsibilities include maintaining organized in-service records, assisting in the reinforcement of nursing procedures and policies, and making daily rounds to ensure that residents receive appropriate nursing care. The Director will also be involved in consumer service, presenting a professional image and ensuring that resident rights are protected at all times. This multifaceted role requires a strong commitment to staff development and quality care in a long-term care setting.
