Job Summary : This position directs and manages special education programming, develops and monitors budgets; maintains positive staff relationships; maintains compliance with state regulations and reporting practices; manages staffing and programming decisions; and provides direct support and assistance to building administrators.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in special education and/or related fields
  • Special Education Program Administrator's certification and/or Principal's certification
  • Experience with the coordination of special education programs.
  • Knowledge of disability justice, curriculum materials and instructional/behavioral techniques and theories
  • Skill in program development and evaluation, staff supervision, fiscal management, and staff development
  • Demonstrated ability in supporting regular and special education instructional services
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population
  • Skill in oral and written communications, and problem-solving
  • Ability to work effectively with parents and advisory committees to build trust and effective working relationships
  • Ability to work with students, parents, and staff to implement curriculum in regular and alternative educational settings
  • Ability to assist in the accomplishment of the district's strategic plan goals and objectives

Responsibilities

  • Works with principals and special education staff to improve instructional programs.
  • Serves as adjunct member of building guidance team and evaluation team processes; assists in determining student eligibility; and assures programs are aligned with district standards.
  • Supervises student placements, contractual agreements, and agency-related services.
  • Provides legal interpretations regarding state and federal disability mandates.
  • Supervises and evaluates the work of all assigned personnel.
  • Monitors program budget; monitors IEP processes, maintains accurate program records; assists in preparation of local, state, and federal reports.
  • Works with various special education advisory committees to identify current and future program needs.
  • Collaboratively develops department goals, monitors progress and implements professional development, and other strategic plans to improve student performance.
  • Provides on-site building support for special education programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
