The Director of Solution Architecture is player-coach role, split between domain-focused architecture (60%) and leading a team of solution architects (40%). The role involves aligning IT strategies with business goals, establishing architectural standards, and driving innovation across products and systems. Responsibilities include developing technology roadmaps, ensuring compliance, guiding solution delivery, and collaborating with cross-functional and executive teams. Strong leadership, technical acumen, and communication skills are essential for success.

  • Develop and align IT strategies with overall business goals, ensuring technology solutions support the organization's objectives.
  • Consider factors such as reliability, scalability, flexibility, and security in the architecture decisions to ensure long-term success of the company.
  • Assess the impact of changes and provide guidance on managing transitions within the enterprise architecture.
  • Collaborate with financial stakeholders to develop and manage budgets for enterprise architecture initiatives.
  • Evaluate new technologies and tools to determine their suitability for integration into product and enterprise wide architecture.
  • Collaborate with solution architects within the assigned domain to identify gaps in documentation and prioritize and assign remediation accordingly.
  • Establish and enforce architectural principles, standards, and governance to ensure consistency and interoperability across the enterprise.
  • Take a holistic view of the organization, considering how different projects and systems interact and contribute to the overall architecture.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive enterprise architecture models, encompassing business, data, application, and technology domains.
  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps, guiding the evolution of the IT landscape to meet future business requirements.
  • Evaluate and select technologies, and oversee the integration of these solutions into the overall enterprise architecture.
  • Analyze and forecast system capacity requirements to ensure optimal performance and scalability.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks related to technology solutions, ensuring security, compliance, and scalability.
  • Manage risks associated with technology decisions, considering factors like compliance, security, and long-term sustainability.
  • Review and approve new product solution architecture within the assigned domain(s).
  • Collaborate with corporate governance to ensure compliance and approved pathways to production for all domain initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leaders from various pillars to understand business needs and ensure that IT initiatives support broader organizational objectives.
  • Provide guidance to product, solution architects, development teams, ensuring adherence to architectural principles and best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with the corporate architecture team to foster innovation, and promote a cohesive enterprise architecture.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating understanding and buy-in.
  • Drive innovation by staying current on emerging technologies, industry trends and by recommending strategic technology investments.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by evaluating existing processes and proposing enhancements to streamline and optimize the enterprise architecture.
  • Engage with senior management, business leaders in Heartland and GPS to align technology with business strategy.
  • Work across multiple projects and systems, providing clear guidance to SA's, PSE's and Product Managers.
  • Manage a small team of solution architects dedicated to the assigned product domain.
  • Ensure solution architecture work is properly prioritized and completed in alignment with the enterprise needs.
  • Requires a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development and architecture, with a focus on consumer facing products.
  • Proficiency in architecture modeling tools and languages.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant technologies, frameworks, and design patterns.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex architectural challenges.
  • Ability to lead and influence teams in adopting and implementing architectural standards.
