About The Position

This leadership role oversees simulation education and operations, manages budgets and staff, collaborates with faculty, and ensures high-quality simulation-based learning across all nursing programs. The Director reports to the Chair of the Department of Nursing and collaborates with faculty, staff, interdisciplinary teams, and external partners to uphold simulation standards, support grant-funded projects, and advance the department’s mission and strategic goals. The Director of Simulation Experiences also plays a key role in the development and implementation of interprofessional education for the University.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in nursing or health related field.
  • Two years' experience with nursing/healthcare simulation.
  • Knowledge of simulation pedagogy.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree in nursing.
  • Active, unencumbered registered nurse license in Connecticut or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in Connecticut.
  • Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).
  • Experience working in an acute care environment.
  • Experience in teaching at the college level.
  • Knowledge and experience in curriculum design.
  • Experience as a lab director or coordinator.
  • Experience managing budgets, supervising staff, and leading multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of simulation operations, including scheduling, maintenance of simulation equipment and facilities, and coordination of simulation sessions.
  • Support and orient faculty and staff in simulation principles, techniques, and debriefing to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary contact for simulation activities involving students, faculty, staff, administration, and external partners.
  • Monitor advancements in simulation technology, recommend upgrades, and manage inventory, supplies, and reference materials.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of simulation activities across undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Develop and manage the simulation program budget, including forecasting expenses, allocating resources, and monitoring financial performance.
  • Develops inventory policies to ensure levels are maintained in a cost-effective manner.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the simulation program, ensuring alignment with the department and university goals.
  • Chair the Simulation Committee and serve on the Interprofessional Education (IPE) Committee.
  • Supervise and develop simulation staff, oversee hiring, training, and evaluations.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate simulation-based learning across programs, ensuring alignment with outcomes, best practices, and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain and update simulation policies, procedures, and documentation of faculty orientation development.
  • Collaborate with other departments to advance interprofessional education and research.
  • Collaborate with the SIHS Dean and the University IPE committee in planning and scheduling events.
  • Represent the department and the simulation program at professional meetings and conferences.
  • Continuously assess and improve simulation programs and educational content.
  • Collect and analyze simulation data and prepare the annual simulation report.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Chair of the Nursing Department.
  • Facilitates simulations with faculty and/or Simulation Educator, including pre- and post-debriefing sessions.
