About The Position
The Director of Semester & Exchange Programs at Elon University is a pivotal role within the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs, specifically under the Department of Global Engagement. This position is responsible for leading a dedicated team of three professional staff members who manage all aspects of semester and summer study abroad programming. With over 115 programs serving approximately 700 students annually, the Director plays a crucial role in supporting and advancing the Global Engagement Center's (GEC) mission and vision, as well as the broader goals of the University as articulated through the Boldly Elon initiative. The Director's goals include promoting inclusive excellence, enhancing the University’s top-ranked study abroad program, ensuring accessibility for all students, and fostering the acquisition of second languages among participants. In this role, the Director will report directly to the Executive Director of Global Programming and will be tasked with operational management of the Semester & Exchange team. This includes overseeing outreach efforts, curriculum integration, new program operationalization, application processes, communications, workload distribution, personnel management, and emergency management. The Director will also collaborate with academic departments and campus partners to develop and implement strategies that enhance student advising, global programs, and on-campus programming, thereby advancing global engagement at Elon University. Additionally, the Director will serve as the operational director for the flagship Elon Center study abroad programs, managing day-to-day operations, faculty and student preparation, and crisis management. The role also involves advising and supporting students throughout their study abroad experience, ensuring they receive guidance on program selection, academic fit, health and safety, and incident management while abroad. This position is integral to maintaining the high standards of the study abroad programs and ensuring a positive and enriching experience for all students involved.
