The Director of Security will oversee all security operations in support of the company's core business and ensure the safety of tenants, visitors, ESB Observatory guests, employees, and properties. This role involves supervising a security staff of approximately 200 individuals, developing strategic plans and procedures to manage risk, and ensuring vulnerability mitigation while responding to crises. The Director will integrate and coordinate security activities with other ESRT departments and the ESB Observatory, leading security for high-profile events that often include famous celebrities and dignitaries. Additionally, the Director will maintain working relationships with various law enforcement agencies, including the NYPD, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security, and provide regular reports directly to the company's senior leadership. In terms of operations, the Director will manage and supervise security-related personnel, including armed and unarmed security staff, third-party security service providers, and explosive detection canine teams. They will respond to emergencies and events related to protests, stunts, and criminal activities, and direct investigations of criminal activity, including lawful private citizen arrests when necessary. The Director will also coordinate with law enforcement entities associated with visits by dignitaries and heads of state, ensuring safety and security awareness programs are strategically designed and understood by all impacted parties. The planning aspect of the role includes developing and overseeing strategic plans, annual budgets, and long-term capital plans. The Director will implement security and safety programs and policies, provide training programs for security staff, and monitor the threat landscape to respond to external intelligence information. They will prepare contingency plans for emergencies and maintain knowledge of security and management procedures, equipment, protocols, threats, and countermeasures. In management and administration, the Director will oversee security-related contracts, ensure compliance with security guard licensure and training, maintain incident/accident reports, and prepare RFPs for equipment purchases and services. Success in this role is defined by the ability to work collaboratively with all teams to achieve company goals, ensuring the safety and security of the Empire State Building and ESRT properties while serving as a trusted advisor to senior management.
